A Twenty Year History of Treatment for Psychiatric Issues
For more than twenty years, McLean Hospital’s Appleton residential treatment program has provided comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitative care to men and women who have serious and persistent psychiatric diagnoses.
We offer personalized, compassionate care for adults with mental illness that enables them to understand, accept, and manage their psychiatric conditions. Our goal is to enable people struggling with psychiatric issues to restore their mental health and return to their communities to live as independently as possible.
Each resident of Appleton’s mental health treatment facility receives an individually tailored evaluation that may include:
Psychological testing
Neuropsychological testing
Neuromedical consultation
Dual-diagnosis assessment
Along with case managers, residents plan individual and group psychiatric treatment experiences using the resources of Appleton, McLean Hospital, and the surrounding community.
A Residential Treatment Community in a Renovated Historic Mansion
Appleton’s mental health treatment setting provides adults with mental illness a home-like space in a renovated historic mansion that includes:
Semi-private and private bedrooms
Spacious common living areas
Kitchen and dining room
Art room
Solarium
Just a few buildings away, our fitness center offers supervised training from a fitness instructor.
A Multidisciplinary, 5-Phase Approach to Psychiatric Care
Our multidisciplinary treatment team includes a psychiatrist, licensed independent clinical social workers, occupational therapist, nurses, and community residence counselors. We work with residents to progress through treatment at an individually suitable pace that typically occurs in five phases:
Understanding and stabilizing mental illness
Establishing a daily routine
Education and social interaction
Educational and vocational strategizing
Community reintegration
Returning to the Community as a Mental Health Goal
All of our work helps mentally ill adults achieve and solidify significant gains in coping with the symptoms of their mental illness and making the personal, social, educational, and vocational progress they need to transition back into their communities. When they leave our residential treatment facility, adults with mental illness are prepared for a lifetime of growth and development with support from community-based providers.
